*The World of the Wasp*, by Joy Spoczynska, a Fellow of both the Zoological Society and the Royal Entomological Society, is a detailed and comprehensive study of social and solitary wasps in both Britain and many countries abroad. Her field trips to collect material for the book took her through the southern United States, Guyana, India and West Africa and enabled her to provide a most thorough survey which will excite and interest specialist and non-specialist reader alike.

Having dealt with Polistes and Polybia paper Makers, Potters and Masons, the solitary Ammophila, Ichneumons, Gall-wasps and various predators, the author goes on to demonstrate, in the very useful Appendix, methods of studying wasps advises on the building of a reference collection and suggests further reading.

This immensely readable book is expanded with numerous line drawings which clearly illustrate many of the nests and species mentioned and is further supplemented with a collection of black and white photographs.
