(George William Russell (10 April 1867  17 July 1935) who wrote with the pseudonym Æ (sometimes written AE or A.E.), Pivotal Irish Writer, Patron of Artists, Key figure in Irish Cooperative Movement.He was born in Lurgan, County Armagh. He worked many years for the Irish Agricultural Organization Society (IAOS). During the 1913 Dublin Lock-out he wrote an open letter to the Irish Times criticising the attitude of the employers. He was an independent delegate to the 1917-18 Irish Convention Russell was editor from 1905 to 1923 of the Irish Homestead, the journal of the IAOS. He then became editor of the The Irish Statesman, which merged with the Irish Homestead.He used the pseudonym AE, or more properly, Æ.
