Ministering to Single Adults
Description:
Single adults comprise the greatest unmet challenge the church faces at this present time. The reasons for this current happening and what the church may do to minister to this great group of people, is the subject of this book. This challenge has two major components. First, to create a caring fellowship and design a program that will encourage and enable single adults to become full members of the Body of Christ. Second, to express the redeeming love of Christ, and demonstrate an openness to every person so that they will be attracted to the Christ who can bring wholeness and peace their unsettled lives. These people - whether divorced, widowed, legally separated, or single by choice - have needs, both expressed and unexpressed, that vary widely depending on the age and history of the individual. Obviously, the fact of their singleness is about the only thing a 22-year-old recent college graduate shares with a 40-year-old divorcee or a 71-year-old widower. They are all single adults, but clearly cannot be lumped together in some kind of "catch-all" singles program in a local church. It is this diversity that will challenge the best in creative effort by concerned Christians. The hopeful aspect is that these are adults - mature, experienced adults - with tremendous personal and human resources. Given an opportunity, they can develop the program that best ministers to their needs. They do not need sponsors, just a chance!
