The Eagle Squadrons: Yanks in the RAF, 1940-1942

During the two years before the U.S. entered World War II , some 244 American pilots secretely made their way to England and volunteered to fly for the Royal Air Force . In violation of draft and neutrality laws , and often only one step ahead of the F.B.I., these brave and adventurous young flyers crossed the Canadian border and then stowed away aboard Britain-bound cargo ships . Many of them became leading aces of the R.A.F. and then the United States Army Air Force.....Their units became known as THE EAGLE SQUADRONS....
