Description:
This volume is the report of one of several studies which were conducted concurrently but in different sections of the United States. All of these investigations were the outgrowth of the American Youth Commission's desire to see wherein Negro youth faced distinctive problems in their development as individual personalities. By looking steadily and long at the life experiences of eight selected Negro adolescents and many others whose cases are on file but here fully reported, the authors of the present volume have followed their original assignment of revealing what it means to be born a Negro. In doing so they have also contributed significantly to our knowledge of the socializing process itself.
