The Soul in Ascent: Bonaventure on Poverty, Prayer, and Union With God (Studies in Franciscanism)

This is a detailed study of the Christian spiritual tradition as developed by an an outstanding medieval scholar, Bonaventure, whose work if characterized by great depth and richness. It is particularly in the area of conversation between the different Christian traditions, and even more so the conversations between Christianity and non-Christian religious traditions that the work of Bonaventure may reveal its deeper significance. The appendix includes the authors translations of three of Bonaventure's sermons which provide primary textual evidence for the argument of the book.
