Nursing Diagnosis & Intervention: Planning for Patient Care is a comprehensive presentation of the theory and practice of nursing diagnosis based on current research. The text uses a narrative format to explain nursing diagnosis rather than using a strictly list format. The narrative format allows the text to serve both as a tool for teaching students how to formulate a nursing diagnosis and write a care plan, and as a resource for practising nurses who need clear assessment parameters as well as directions for planning care.

Collaborative interventions are distinguished from nursing interventions in the Nursing Care Guidelines (generic care plans) to indicate those interventions performed by nurses in conjunction with other health care professionals.
