Southeast Asia In The New International Era: Second Edition (Politics in Asia and the Pacific : Interdisciplinary Perspectives)

Building on the theme that South-east Asian political developments must be seen within the context of the changing international system, this study examines the national elections that have taken place in the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia. It also discusses the role of the United Nations in attempting to bring peace to Cambodia, the likelihood of Vietnam becoming part of the world capitalist system, the enormous impact of the demise of the Soviet bloc on the region, and the new roles of the United States, China and Japan. Statistics are provided to support the significance and relevance of the author's analysis.
