Daniel Ladd: Merchant Prince of Frontier Florida

This is less of a biography of Ladd than a history of his business career. Although he left some excellent business records and hints of his personality show in a few surviving scattered letters, especially his prolific newspaper advertising, much about the man remains unknown. The absence of personal papers has been partially compensated by resort to a wide variety of primary records dealing specifically with his career and secondary works relating to cotton production and marketing in general.
