Starting Science: Sound and Music (Starting Science Series)

The "Starting Science" series is designed to make science themes come alive through a combination of full page impact photographs with commentary for discussion, activities and investigations in which the children are involved and background information further linking pictures and activities into each chapter's topic. Each book in the series provides an introduction to science enquiry methods. In using them the teacher will find they are involving the other core subjects of language and maths. Through the activities and investigations, the children use a variety of ways to explore the world around them and to record their discoveries. The activities and investigations are closely related to children's early experiences and can be used flexibly, depending on their ability. They are designed to be easily accessible to parents or teachers. This book introduces children to sound and how it is produced, transmitted and received. The activities are also designed to develop children's aural skills. They are told how sound and music are produced naturally and mechanically, and how sound is important in communication.
