Great Movie Directors
Description:
From Library Journal Written with the cooperation of the Directors Guild of America, Great Movie Directors is like many large-format books inasmuch as its production is lavish, but its text is less than scintillating. Sennett outlines the careers of over 200 directors (some decidedly less than "great") from silent movie days to the present. The book is attractively illustrated with some 300 photographs, but it is unfortunate that more of the photos do not feature the directors themselves, rather than frequently seen stills from the films. No new information is presented, and the writing is rather plodding. Nevertheless, this is unusually accurate on factual matters and can serve adequately as an introduction to directors of U.S. films. John Smothers, Monmouth Cty.
