Jottings from Dixie is a volume of all fifty-five letters Sgt. Maj. Stephen F. Fleharty wrote to newspaper editors in Illinois, which he authored his own column in the newspaper titled 'Jottings from Dixie.' The letters chronicle the history of his regiment, 102d Illinois Infantry, which originated in Knoxville, Illinois to it's participation in the fall of Atlanta, his opinions on politics, slavery, and southerners, and his own trials and tribulations in camp, on the march, and in battle.
