Truth, Faith, Common Sense, and You
Description:
One Sunday morning fifty-seven years ago, John Evans was searching for music to listen to on the radio when he happened upon a program about the life of St. Dorothea. John, a Protestant, was so enthralled he began to study the Catholic faith. It was not long after this that he converted to Catholicism and has since been, in his words, "a relentless and unflinching guardian of this religion."
His goal, however, is not to find fault with other Christian denominations; instead, after studying all the facets of Christianity, including many versions of the Bible, he offers solid arguments as to why Catholicism makes the most sense.
In "Part One," he examines the differences between the various interpretations of biblical quotations, explaining why simple human virtues, such as love, faith, and trust, form the groundwork of every Christian denomination. In addition, he analyzes what are sometimes thought to be discrepancies in the Bible and explains their meanings according to Catholicism. He offers suggestions as to how we can live according to God's law with the help of common sense and prayer and how we can avoid the pitfalls to which our imperfect human nature often leads us.
In "Part Two," John provides examples of how he defends his religion by including correspondence between himself and TV evangelist Jimmy Swaggart. In his letters, John questions Mr. Swaggart's criticism of certain Catholic beliefs and practices and then, using biblical references, explains why he feels Mr. Swaggart's denouncement of Catholicism is unjustified.
Whether we truly realize it or not, we are here on Earth for a purpose, and our existence did not occur by chance. God created us and then gave us the free will to choose between good and evil. Each of us was provided with a conscience which will guide us in the right direction if only we listen to what our hearts tell us, and John Evans has provided us with th guidelines, "Truth, Faith, Common Sense, and You" will teacher readers to follow the righteous path - not the one dictated by our own egos but the one constructed in accordance with God's plan.
