Watergate: A Political Tragedy
Description:
Fred J. Maroon had no way of knowing in 1970, as he began work on a book project about the new presidency (published in 1971) that he was about to embark on a four-year photographic odyssey enveloping the entire Watergate scandal, & culminating in the resignation of Richard M. Nixon. Maroon devoted himself to cover the Watergate scandal in its entirety. His acquaintance with some of the witnesses afforded him unusual behind-the-scenes access. He was able to photograph the House impeachment of the president. Finally, Maroon photographed the last days of the Nixon administration, including Nixon's farewell speech in the East Room of the White House on August 9, 1974. In the spirit of Maroon's landmark portfolio, the accompanying text by eminent journalist Tom Wicker is an objective narration of events.
