Thomas L. McKenney: Architect of America's Early Indian Policy, 1816-1830

McKenney is one of the most important yet least known figures in the history of the American Indians. He administered the nation's Indian affairs for 14 years under four presidents and was the principal architect of 2 pieces of significant legislation. The range of McKenney's responsibilities in the Indian service and the enthusiastic and dogged work that went into them are staggering.
