Description:
There are many ways of presenting the case for Christianity. This is just one. Inevitably it is a personal approach. The material was originally developed for a youth club and expanded into a book form under the title Christianity on Trial. Since then it has been tested in discussion with international students, and completely re-cast to start with human rather than abstract questions. In putting Christianity on trail, or making a case for it, I have concentrated on Christian beliefs. We can hardly carry out a thorough investigation into Christianity as a historical phenomena. What would we be trying to prove - that Christianity has done more good than harm, or more harm than good? What we can do is test the beliefs, understand the Christian world-view, appreciate what it feels like to see the world as the Christian sees it. We can ask: are these beliefs true? Do they fit the facts of history and experience? Do they make sense of the world as we know it? We begin, therefore, not with Christian beliefs about God or even with Jesus Christ but with ourselves, the man.
