The Gospel According to Matthew (Thornapple Commentaries)

The last book written by J. A. Alexander - whom Charles Hodge considered the greatest man produced by American Presbyterianism - was this commentary on Matthew. He includes a masterful summary and analysis of all twenty-eight chapters, and he comments insightfully on each verse in chapters 1-16. His work was cut short by death; the commentary was published posthumously. While he does refer to the original text, using it to illuminate the English translation printed in full through chapter 16, he does so without stumbling the Bible student who has not mastered Greek. The commentary reflects the hand of an expert linguist and analyst, as well as a devout Christian.
