Long Road South: The Pan American Highway

Veining the whole of South America, the vast Pan American Highway system now seeps across both North and South America, from Alaska to the tip of Argentina. Conceived int he climate of internationalism that followed World War I, the original 10,000-mile highway revolutionized life along its path. Today this ribbon of asphalt leads from the steamy Rio Grande Valley in the north to the chilly shoes of Patagonia in the south, offering an intimate glimpse into the heart and sould of Latin America.
