Born the son of a poor Cape Breton miner, Andy MacDonald and his ten brothers and sisters never had quite enough to eat. But always resourceful, Andy once ate an orange flavoured cardboard duck to supplement a meager Christmas dinner. Andy not only survived; he also lived to write about the bitter-sweet and hilarious tales of growing up and living on the edge of a poor coal-mining town during the dirtiest of the thirties.
