Chinese Master 2021 Calendar
Description:
Chao Shao-an (1905–1998) came of age at a tumultuous time in Chinese history. The role of artist was hotly debated as China moved into the modern era and China's first formal art schools were founded. Chao became a leader in the modernist movement and endeavored "to learn from Nature but be inspired by inner sensibility." He cofounded the Lingnan Art Studio to teach and promote this vital, fresh approach. The masterful paintings presented here are characteristic of Chao's free, fluid brushwork, his use of vibrant color, and his inventive compositions. All are from the collection of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. All of Pomegranate's calendars are printed with soy-based inks on environmentally sourced paper.
