Ernst Haeckel: Art Forms in Nature 2021 Wall Calendar

A spectacular merging of art and science, Ernst Haeckel's 1904 Kunstformen der Natur (or Art Forms in Nature) celebrates the beauty and evolution of life forms. Haeckel, a German biologist and an early supporter of Darwinism, was fascinated by everything from microscopic sea organisms to carnivorous plants to exotic reptiles. With this landmark study of flora and fauna, he aimed to widen the general public's understanding of naturalism. These twelve illustrations are from a copy of Kunstformen der Natur in the Case Book Collection in the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress.
