Description:
Edward Hopper (American, 1882–1967) is often called one of the twentieth century’s greatest realists. His outdoor scenes capture atmosphere in all its incarnations, from early morning light and shadows, to the hot bright white of a summer day, to the fading warmth of sunset. “I like long shadows and early and late sunlight,” Hopper once said. “I am very much interested in light, and particularly sunlight, trying to paint sunlight without eliminating the form under it, if I can.” Hopper spent most of his career in New York and New England, amassing a body of work that includes somber interiors as well as moody seascapes and shadow-filled street scenes.
The artworks in this calendar are all in the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.
