Tarquin's Shell

Tarquin is an unhappy turtle. He wants a new shell -- and Duck, Mouse, Fox, Frog, and Bird help him look for one. They try a woolen red hat, then a colander, but that's full of holes, then an old shoe, a tambourine, and a bright yellow rain hat. At last Tarquin finds exactly the right shell, and children will laugh when they reach the story's end and discover what it is! The feature that makes each full-color illustration special is Tarquin himself. He's a cardboard puppet without a shell, and he's attached to the book with a ribbon. Kids can fit him into slots in each of seven pictures, as he tries on different shells.
