Barron's Compact Guide to Colleges

This smaller and less expensive version of Barron's Profiles of American Colleges has been updated for the 2000-2001 school year. It describes more than 400 colleges across the United States in profiles adapted from the larger book. The Compact Guide mainly profiles schools that fall within Barron's top three categories on the academic competitiveness scale: Most Competitive, Highly Competitive, and Very Competitive. It also includes some very large schools, as well as that offer highly specialized programs.
