The original book, ''Merry Surprises,'' was first published around 1897 by Ernest Nister of London. Nister was among the best-known creators of movable books, & his rosy-cheeked, Victorian children illustrated here are as enchanting today as they were then. this reproduction features unique changing pictures, filled with fun & action, as well as the delightful verses form the original book. As a tab is moved from left to right, one picture is magically transformed into another; new characters & things appear, as if by magic, in the upper right-hand opening of each scene.
