Charles Rennie Mackintosh: Art Is The Flower

Influential Scottish architect, artist and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh drew and painted plants prolifically throughout his career, although recognition of his achievements in this respect came only relatively recently. This book, illustrated with lovely full-color reproductions, traces the development of Mackintosh's botanical studies. His changing style is followed from the early pencil sketchbook drawings, through the introduction of watercolor in the early 1900s, to the beautiful Walberswick group of 1914-15. Mackintosh's sophisticated still-life compositions and striking textile designs of later years, which were to place him at the forefront of the avant-garde movement in Britain, are also considered in context.
