Home by the Sea: Protecting Coastal Wildlife
Description:
In this portrait of three New Zealand (NZ) conservation programs, Mallory illuminates how humans & animals can share precious living space. Snapshots of coastal wildlife: A little blue penguin, caught in an oil slick, flounders to shore & a likely death; a dolphin the size of a bicycle gets caught in a fisherman's net & nearly drowns; a yellow-eyed penguin wanders in confusion, searching for its nesting site in a tract of newly constructed seaside homes. When the animals that live along the world's coastlines cross paths with humans, too often the animals lose out. But it doesn t have to be this way. The success of NZ's efforts reveals what we all must do to ensure that animals & people can live peacefully side by side on Earth. Color photos.
