This is a history of the greatest infantry bayonet charges that won an attack or beat off assaults, where raw courage & cold steel have often won the day over technology & numbers. The book starts with an account of the bayonet actions during the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-05. Then it moves 20 years forward to the outbreak of WW1 & the horrors of trench warfare. The fighting is, where possible, told through the words of those who took part or who witnessed it, conveying the full horror, excitement & atmosphere of this close-quarter fighting.
