Footsteps

The women in Helena Mayrick's family have always led secretive, tragic lives, and when Helena's world is devastated by a shocking accident it seems that the pattern is set to repeat itself. Whilst struggling to cope with her own grief and caring for her young daughter, Helena is asked to help research a book on her grandfather, the celebrated Edwardian photographer Donaldson. At first, she is reluctant to help - not least because the relationship between Donaldson and her grandmother, Ruth, is shrouded in mystery and turmoil - but gradually Helena finds that the past, like the present, was shaped by cruel dilemmas and the demands of love.
