The illustrations aim to de-mystify the scientific theory and expose the workings of each machine. Focusing on levers, this book describes such terms as fulcrum, effort and load, and sets out to show how levers are used in a multitude of everyday machines, from a simple spade to a grand piano and a seesaw to a typewriter.
