Description:
Beginning 2nd September 1988 for six weeks, rock performers such as Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen and Sting headlined a series of 18 concerts held in 15 countries throughout the world, in order to raise world consciousness of human rights in the 40th anniversary year of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Presented on behalf of Amnesty International, this book details in words and pictures the progress of that tour, from its starting point at Wembley Stadium to such cities as Budapest, Tokyo, Bangkok, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires. The text not only highlights the musical performances, but also the activities of leading human rights activists who gave press conferences in each of the cities the tour visited, in order to relate the plight of political prisoners worldwide.
