Partners In Peace and Prosperity

In 1977 Bermuda, the tranquil and beautiful vacationland, erupted in race riots.  The island was in a state of anxiety and upheaval.  Partners in Peace and Prosperity:  A Premier and a Governor in Bermuda, 1977-1981 recalls this volatile time in Bermuda’s history.

Two men led Bermuda through this tumultuous, intense, and important chapter in her history, an era that began with executions and race riots and ended with the initiation of greater political, social, and economic opportunities for all Bermudians.  

The Premier of Bermuda, David Gibbons, was ensconced in business, politics, culture, and society in Bermuda, and was deeply dedicated to the country’s success and happiness. The Governor of Bermuda, Sir Peter Ramsbotham, brought to Bermuda the wisdom, experience, and intelligence of a lifelong diplomat.  Together they navigated Bermuda and her people through these turbulent times.

Allison Moir has written an engaging record of this era. She conducted extensive interviews with Gibbons and Ramsbotham as well as with many other prominent Bermudians and Americans.  Partners in Peace and Prosperity offers an in-depth look at an important chapter in Bermuda’s recent history.
