An Introduction to Highway Law
Description:
This book was published for the first time in 1993 and proved popular as a clear, straightforward reference to the law of highways. Michael Orlik has now revised the text to take account of legislation since the original edition, including the Countryside and Rights of Way Act. Also incorporated are references to recent case law, including important High Court judgements on winter maintenance and accidents on the highway, such as "Stovin v. Wise", and on rights of way. The cases now reaching the higher courts on the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and the subsequent regulations are also covered, as is the House of Lords decision in the "Wildtree Hotels" case in the context of compulsory purchase and compensation. The recent environmental legislation and the implications of the Human Rights Act on highway administration are considered. The format of the book has been retained with the intention that it should continue to provide easy access into this specialist area of law for busy solicitors in general practice and for highway engineers charged with the maintenance of the country's road network.
