In December 1979, when the Soviet Union entered Afghanistan few believed that the modern, technologically advanced Soviet Army could be resisted by the fledgling mujahideen guerilla movement. Yet, in 1989 the Soviet Army voluntarily withdrew its forces. This unique book describes in detail how the Afghan guerilla fighters waged war against the Soviet Army and is based on the authors' interviews with mujahideen combat veterans. Originally commissioned by the US marine Corps, The Other Side of the Mountain is a companion volume to The Bear Went Over the Mountain, also published in this series by Frank Cass in 1998.
