Description:

The heyday of the tram is a difficult period to identify, in numerical terms the number of trams reached their peak . some 14,000 in the mid 20's but even by that stagea number of smaller systems had fallen by the wayside. Alternatively the, 1930's witnessed a considerable investment in new lines and vehicles by a number of important operators - notably Sheffield, Liverpool, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh and even London - whilst simultaneously the axe was wielded elsewhere. Even in 1945 there were almost 7,000 trams in operation in Britain and a large number of towns and cities had no defined plans to abandon them.
