The threat her husband had calmly issued when Emily told him she was leaving seemed extreme, even for the enigmatic, controlling Sterne Follet. Thinking about it now, as she languished in the sleepy, coastal town, Emily decided it was almost laughable. But her illusion of safety is abruptly shattered as a sequence of sinister events unfolds - culminating in the discovery of a body lying in the water's shallows.
