Mr Cross keeps a tally of fellow residents' deaths on the back of his wardrobe. Meanwhile, Mrs Green seems to be hiding a mysterious past, while Jock MacPherson doesn't give a damn about anything as long as it doesn't affect Home Rule for Scotland. Presiding over them all is Matron, grimly efficient and ever alert to the Expectation of Legacies. Then two newcomers arrive, and suddenly The Hollyhocks is awash with hidden desires, fear and trepidation.
