Harmony and Ear Training at the Keyboard
Description:
This book contains a series of 46 projects, arranged progressively, which are designed to demonstrate the principles of harmony from diatonic triads through chromatic harmony and twentieth century practices. Most of the projects are based on a three-part format: (!) typical setting of a given chord, (2) phrases with figured bass in which the chord is employed in a variety of contexts, and (3) melody harmonization, again emphasizing the chord under consideration.. Throughout the book there are repeated reminders to listen critically while performing - to sing along with the bass notes or chord roots, to imagine the sounds before playing, etc. The importance of this mental-aural exercise can not be overemphasized... Besides the basic three=part format, most projects include other material to promote the development of aural skills.
