Orff and Kodaly Adapted for the Elementary School
Description:
This book is an attempt to make the adaptations necessary to make Orff and Kodaly relevant to this country, and to set these ideas down in such a way that educators can understand and use them. Since that is a supplementary text which can be used in conjunction with New Approaches to Music in the Elementary School or any other elementary music methods text, other areas of elementary music education and the philosophy underlying them, explored fully in New Approaches and most other texts, will not be treated here. It is not their intent to have the very explicit experiences suggested herein be treated as strict formula for teaching. Rather it is to be hoped that teachers will read and explore the ideas for experiences suggested and will then adapt them to meet their own classroom situations in the most creative way. It should be emphasized too, that all activities: speech, melodic, rhythmic, and so on overlap and interweave. Although for purposes of clarify they are treated separately in this book, in the classroom they are best experienced concurrently and in relation with one another.
