His roots still deep in the Yorkshire city of Leeds in the north of England, John Mercer has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since he bumped up against the Pacific Ocean in 1979. Having given the place a good looking-over, he has finally applied to become a citizen of the USA and, if successful, looks forward to his new status.
