Description:

KAWS's paintings and sculptures explore ideas about the power of images to communicate beyond their expected realms. Ambivalence around culturally held notions of entertainment and fun and its relationship to advanced art underlies all of KAWS's work. Through his stylized adaptations of icons of American animation, he accesses a collective consciousness to mirror our ongoing addiction to the culture industry, an addiction that is fueled just as much by our own acceptance of its machinations as by its own intentions. KAWS: MAN'S BEST FRIEND documents KAWS's exhibition in September of 2014. At 128 pages, the first half of the book includes an essay by gallery director Corrina Peipon followed by black and white installation views and full color illustrations of all seventeen works in the exhibition, complementing the play between black and white and color paintings in the exhibition. The second half of the book comprises full-page illustrations of each of the fifty works on paper in MAN'S BEST FRIEND, the centerpiece of the exhibition. KAWS: MAN'S BEST FRIEND is hard bound with a black matte foil cover and an embossed title page.
