For Jack Willis, riding one last wave on a dazzling summer afternoon on Long Island turned out to be no fun at all. That last wave broke his neck. Here we follow Jack's excruciating physical struggle for recovery during his months in the Southampton Hospital. We also learn of the equally agonizing emotional struggle of his fiancee, Mary Pleshette, as she watched Jack's glacial progressions and setbacks.
