Haematology is the study of the disorders of the cellular and coagulable components of the blood. This encompasses a number of important diseases, which include anaemias, leukaemias, and other disorders of the bone marrow and of blood coagulation and haemostasis. This subject is taught as part of a pathology course and relies upon a sound knowledge of both basic science and laboratory practice.
