Essentials of Clinical Immunology
Description:
"Essentials of Clinical Endocrinology" makes use of illustrative case histories and flow charts to demonstrate the usefulness of clinical immunology in the diagnosis and management of a great number and variety of human diseases. It is aimed at both the practising clinician and the medical student. The second edition has put AIDS into its overall clinical context, along with its differential diagnosis. AIDS is discussed in immunodeficiency as well as in each diseased organ system (e.g. skin, chest and nervous system). The chapter on basic immunology now contains more on interleukins and also includes T cell receptors. The relevance of the new DNA technology is discussed both in the techniques chapter and also with regard to new synthetic vaccines in the chapter on immune manipulation. Here too, the use of immune modulators (such as interleukin 2 and inteferon) in clinical trials has been anticipated. The role of bone marrow transplantation has been revised and in the chapter on lymphoproliferation, gene rearrangement has been included in the context of diagnosis of lymphoproliferative diseases.
