This is a basic undergraduate textbook about the British Civil Service and how it fits in with the business of administration and government. After a brief history of how the current status and structure of the Civil Service came into being and an examination of what the Civil Service "is", the book looks at such matters as "getting in and getting on", the working environment, relationships with ministers and possibilities for future change and reform.
