A Guardian for Garson

Dragons feature prominently in ancient lore. Fire-breathing monsters who hoard gold and carry off damsels are the villains (and secret heroes) of countless stories. Sadly, those giants are gone. Stories about Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster may occasionally grace the pages of our newspapers: but when was the last time you read a story about a dragon terrorizing a village? All is not lost, however. A lucky few of us know that dragons are still around: not the huge, hulking beasts that went up against St. George, mind you. These dragons are small and docile: but no less magical! Because they are magical, these dragons must be protected from those who would harm them. “Why would anyone want to hurt a dragon?” you ask. There are many reasons: money, fame and discovering the secret to near immortality to name just a few. A dragon is well-aware of these dangers. That is why a dragon (that’s right, the dragon) will select a human to protect it. How does the dragon know whom to choose? I don’t know. But they know: trust me. Why should you trust me? I have firsthand knowledge: a dragon chose me. My name is Richard Peterson, and I am a guardian.
