Mary Mackay born in London, began her career as a musician going by the name Marie Corelli. Giving up music to become a novelist in 1886, she published her first novel "A Romance of Two Worlds. Throughout her books she attempts to square Christianity with the spiritual world. She faced criticism from the literary critics for overly melodramatic writing.
