Mary Rolandson was captured in King Philip's War and held by the Native Americans for eleven weeks before she was ransomed. This is an important work in the captivity narratives. Born in 1637 in Somersetshire, England as Mary White marring Thomas Rowlandson in 1656. While living in Lancaster with her three kids it came under attack by Narragansett, Nipmuc and Wampanoag Indians. Taken with her kids they were forced follow the Indians as they fled through the wilderness to evade the colonial militia.
