Description:

What's Your Game Plan? Backgammon Strategy in the Middle Game teaches the reader a process-oriented approach to solving complex and difficult backgammon problems, many of which don't fit neatly into conventional categories. The book starts with all 122 problems in quiz format, with only a diagram and the dice roll, the way they would appear in an actual game. Then the answers are presented in discussions which show the logical process used to reach them. This approach enables readers to transfer what they have learned from the specific examples given to the problems they encounter in their own games. All the solutions in this book have been verified by computer rollouts using eXtreme Gammon (XG), the current state-of-the-art "bot" for backgammon study. Later rollouts using a recently updated version of that program have verified that all the solutions are correct. Following the discussion of each problem, a solution diagram plus two tables of rollout results are presented. The authors, Mary Hickey and Marty Storer, are both internationally known backgammon champions and teachers, and have written extensively about the game. Mary's other work includes a book on CD about chouette, a multi-player form of the game, and Marty has written a two-volume set analyzing three tournament matches played by backgammon "Giant" Malcolm Davis.
