The breakfast sandwich Herb introduced may be small enough to hold in your hand, but its impact has been significant. Before the Egg McMuffin, McDonald s was in a formative period - limited menu, primarily carryout, no drive-thrus and only a few stores with seating. Within a few years, breakfast came to account for 15 percent of McDonald s restaurant sales in the United States, and McDonald s became a significant factor in the breakfast market.
